Sometimes those of use involved in a lustful relationship with technology forget what it is like for those not tied up by virtual strings. I am insightful enough to realize that I have an evangelizing quality to my beliefs regarding technology and I feel self-righteous at times about those beliefs.
It is good and well that we, lovers of technology, step back and look at those who are not on our bandwagon with understanding eyes. We must also be educators and conversation starters in the most gentle of ways. We must not be pushy, full of jargon, or condescending.
I still believe that technology must be learned or ELSE, but this is my mental reminder to take it slow.
There was a Strategic Directions Forum at MPOW yesterday in which many of our opportunities for the future involve some very heady technology. I was worried that we might be thrown out on our ears, but with a little fun and explanation, people seemed enthusiastic about our ideas. I was so pleased and surprised.
I know that I work in a great place with some great people, but I think I underestimated their ability to see the future for what it is and be excited about it. I think that some of the technology might be hazy to many, but the ability to serve our users better through proper implementation of technologies has everyone smiling.

Oh, Friday, you spring upon me and tickle my senses. You free me from a week packed far to tightly with obligations at work and in my domestic sphere. Thank you for arriving in so timely a fashion, before I have truly lost all of my cognitive ability. Can I entice you to share a pint with me?
–Jane, first round is on me, cheers

I know that you have all been missing me dreadfully, but I have had meetings all day for the past couple of days. Work really does get in the way of my Big Thoughts and blogging.

I am going to have my first article published soon, in a peer reviewed journal no less, and I received this email today asking me if I wanted my figure printed in color. Keep in mind my figure is a simple bar graph.
While there is no charge for the colour reproduction of the figure on the internet, there is a charge of $974.00 to reproduce the colour in print. At your earliest convenience please let me know whether or not you would like the figure printed in colour.
Umm. No thanks. I am sure the black, white, and grey bar graph will be just as effective.
–Jane, wonders who would really pay almost $1,000 for a color graph

Everyone survived Saturday night, drank the required amount, and went to bed peacefully after a night of dancing. I had a great time. Details and pictures will never be forthcoming, but I think you will learn to live with the disappointment.
In the same relm as the Coupling (BBC version) episode in which they discuss the “Lesbian Spank Inferno” *ahem* video: I had a funny conversation with a friend this morning in which he asked me if there were pillow fights and tickling at my party, you know, because that is what women do when we get together. At least in Man Fantasy Land, that is the way it happens. So, if my bachelorette party had occurred in Man Fantasy Land, it would have been called Lace Panty Pillow Fight. Alas, it occurred in The Real World, and thus could be called Girls Dancing and Behaving Themselves, Mostly.
The time will fly between now and April 29th, when I will be forever yoked to Mr. Rochester as we promise to drive each other crazy until we both die.
–Jane, I do

Tonight, I will be participating in a time honored tradition called The Bachelorette Party. There will be a limo, innappropriate gifts, too much drinking, and dancing around Houston. All of my friends from various moments in my life will be there, except for the losers who pooped out on me, but I still love all of you.
Have a nice weekend everyone. I sure will.
–Jane, will behave, sorta

Today, it is cloudy and one of those days in which my job feels like it is waging a battle against me. I try to be a good subject librarian. I try to be responsive to the needs of my faculty. I order things they want. This morning, after doing some checking, I found out that some things I requested in November were not ordered until March. MARCH!
Acquisitions tries, but they are short staffed and that is not an answer I feel is appropriate for my faculty. What can I tell them? Our ordering system is so cumbersome and arcane that I can promise you nothing. Ever. So please stop asking me for items in October that you need for the Spring semester, we will never get them in time.
On top of that, a video that I got specifically for a professor has somehow disappeared in between Acquisitions, Access Services, and the shelf. Crap. She needs it, yesterday. Damn. Updated: Make that three missing videos.
Why can’t anything go according to the gorram plan?
–Jane, surly, but trying
