Being a Librarian is like…

Published by Jane at 11:17 am under librarianship

not a box of chocolates. It is, according to Meredith Farkas at IL this year, like being an alcoholic. Even if you change jobs and your title no longer has “librarian” contained in it, you are still a librarian. It never goes away.

I am answering some questions for an interview and one of my answers reminded me of Meredith’s words to Dave Free.

You never stop being a librarian once you are one.

Maybe we need a recovery group or something?

–Jane, Hi, my name is Jane. I am a librarian. I can’t stop helping people find stuff.

My joke about librarianship being a “genetic defect” in my family as I’m 3rd-generation is only 1/2 meant as a joke.
