You have a serious debate with your husband over what order is the proper viewing order for Star Wars when it is time to introduce them to your children.

Do you go with the traditional viewing, Episodes 4,5,6,1,2,3?

Do you show them chronology and run the risk of the special effects of the newer ones shadowing the campiness of the older ones? Will the crappy dialog and terrible acting of Episodes 1-3 completely turn off the young ones?

We came to the conclusion that Star Wars is best shown in the traditional manner, with the original trilogy followed by the newer movies. Besides the reasons stated above, we also feel that Episodes 1-3 allude to events and people in the older Episodes (4-6) which enrich the viewing experience.

–Jane, thinks the Jedi Drinking Song Prequel says it all

I have heard a few things about Eventful in passing recently. Eventful is a place where you can advertise or find things going on in your area. It is a very interesting service.

This morning I received my Bard Crier, a semi-regular email from Marc Gunn of the Brobdingnagian Bards, which included a use of Eventful that I found fun. By clicking on this link, you can go the The Bards’ page and request them in your area. When they have enough requests for an event, they will travel and play in that town. Music on demand. Some of you will remember that I went to see Marc and Andrew at a house concert this past fall and loved, loved it.

The Bards have free downloads on their site and a fun podcast, so check them out and if you live in the Houston area, please “Demand” them on Eventful. I would love to see them again.

I wonder if a library could use Eventful for their book mobile service, their mobile storytime, or other traveling shows. It would be interesting to know if someone used this as a guerrilla way of demanding a new service from their library (no fines anyone?), a local merchant, or protesting some other thing in their area.

Does anyone know of any instances of Eventful being used for something other then for what is was created?

–Jane, just curious

With the Bellhaven and Guinness in hand, Mr. Rochester, assorted friends, and I listened to the music of the Brobdingnagian Bards last night. They came to Houston for a house concert. There were songs about drinking, the man they call Jayne, Jedi nights, Hamlet, Frodo Baggins, kissing frogs, ducats, medicinal compounds, and other hilarity.

It was fabulous. I had an absolute blast. If you ever get a chance to see the Bards in person, do not hesitate. Grab your favorite Irish or Scottish brew and run to the venue. If Marc and Andrew will not be in your city anytime soon, you can always listen to the podcast.

Two years ago I heard something I thought I would never be blessed to hear: Paul McCartney singing live. It was the most amazing, surreal, indescribable thing I have ever seen. Every time the chords to a new song would fill the concert hall, I thought I would cry. Now if you are not a lover of the Beatles, I pity your lack of taste. The BBC has a set of photos from McCartney’s latest tour which flooded me with happy thoughts. Nothin’s gonna change my world.
