Well, I had a wonderful weekend in which I played cards, celebrated Mardi Gras, and watched the Super Bowl. Needless to say, I was a tired chickie today. I still managed to impart some knowledge to some eager students and write a review. Not too shabby for a girl who spent a good portion of the weekend with drink in hand.
The Morning News’ First Annual Tournament of Books is now underway. Everyday this week there will be a square off between two well known books of the past year. Today, The Plot Against America beat out The Bad Boy’s Wife to advance to the next round. I am not really surprised, given all the love that Roth has been getting since this book came out.
Michael Schaub points out that the high school students at a school in Colorado show themselves to be a great deal smarter than the parents when they protest against the banning of Bless Me, Ultima from their reading list. People, for the last time already, books are not meant to be banned or burned, they are ment to be read. If you do not like it, don’t read it and don’t let your children read it, but let everyone else make up their own minds. Geez. For those of you who are wondering, Bless Me, Ultima is a beautiful book about a boy and his grandmother, who is a curandera.
