Just when I thought Texas politicians could not get any more obtuse, there is this story in The Chronicle today. Apparently, some large telecommunications companies have their knickers in a wad over small start-ups and non-profits offering free and reduced rate wireless access in US citites. Egads! People will no longer have to pay larger companies for their overpriced high speed internet access. As if it was not already obvious that big company money ruled politics, this is a prime example of large companies trying to keep out competition. I will not even mention the fact that wireless systems, like the one described in the article, help citizens get connected to information.
