Wiley to Purchase Blackwell

Wiley is shelling out over 572 million* pounds (not like a pound of flesh, but the currency of the same title) for Blackwell Publishing. MPOW uses Blackwell for many, many of its purchasing needs. Blackwell holds our book contract and, as a subject librarian, I maintain an online profile for Approvals. It will be interesting to see how our services will change with this acquisition and how the merger will impact what we are offered and charged.

572 pounds? Why, that’s close to $1,100! I would gladly pay up to $1,275 for Blackwell publishing. Is it too late to make a counter-offer?

    572 million pounds?

Good grief, I don’t have that kind of money! I withdraw my offer!

I had the same reaction–whoa, did I just miss my chance to buy a publisher?! How about “million” between 572 and pounds… 🙂

    Hiya,

Clarification…Wiley is just buying the academic publishing arm, Blackwell Publishing. Blackwell Book Services and the UK Blackwell bookshops are not part of this deal.
